GUI/X with Perl

Course Summary

This class discusses the primary X based GUI extensions to Perl. These extensions allow you to write user interfaces with buttons, text entry boxes, etc. Subjects include:
The Sx extension:
Interfacing with X-windows using the Athena widgets and Xlib (a low level interface to X windows).
The Tk extension:
Interfacing with X-windows using the Tk language (a high-level language). Note that TCL is *not* required to use Tk, and thus is not taught.

Audience:

Programmers wanting to write graphical user interface driven programs in Perl.

Prerequisite Knowledge:

The student should have taken the Introduction to Perl Programming, or have equivalent Perl programming experience.

Terminal Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to write perl programs that use the Sx, and pTk extensions.
